SBD Phase 2: Holidays Strike Back

SBD Phase 2 Week 1 Complete

Start: 73.1 kg
Goal: 50 kg
Current: 68.2 kg

This week, I lost 1.1kg (2.42 lbs) on phase 2. I introduced one whole grain carb for lunch or dinner. It was either Chapati (indian flat bread) or brown rice.

I attended a day long seminar on Tuesday and they provided Egg and Cress Whole Wheat Wraps. I had two of those for lunch. There was another sandwich, but it had something sweet in it, so I took a bit and decided to skip it...

South Beach Diet – Phase 2 – Week 1

Whoo Hooo!! I’m officially on Phase 2 starting today. I did my weigh in and I lost a whopping 3.8 kg (8.4 lbs) in 2 weeks. I feel lighter and my face is glowing, with all the raw veggies and the water I’m taking in. I weighed myself yesterday and I have lost an additional 100 grams, so no weight gain from the dinner last night! Yay!

SBD Phase 1 Day 14

I’m finally on the last day of Phase 1.

We are meeting some friends for dinner today at a South Indian Restaurant and pretty much everything in the restaurant is “white” carbs. We South Indians are big on white rice and white carbs. I don’t want this diet to cause resentment, so I made a plan. There is one particular dish that’s my favourite. It is a chick pea curry with deep fried white flat bread (channa bhatura).

SBD Phase 1 Day 13

Phase 1 Day 13 was uneventful. I had a big bowl of salad for lunch. It is almost like a taco salad, but with just boiled beans. I put left over sour cream, guacamole and salsa on it. For snack, I had half cucumber and 4 walnuts. Breakfast was as usual tea and 1 egg with peppers. For dinner, surprisingly, I wasn’t too hungry, so I just ate half a bowl of salad.

SBD Phase 1 Day 12

After a little motivation from the support group,  my rebellion subsided. I’m back on track and motivated. I also went shopping and restocked the fridge with vegetables. I realized that bell peppers are the key. If I have a lot of bell peppers in the fridge, the diet is easy. Otherwise, it’s hard. Funny, huh!

SBD Phase 1 Day 11

My rebellion is starting. I’m wanting to give up and stop the diet. I checked the scale today and it still showed 70, so I haven’t lost much in the past few days (or it could be that I was checking at different times). Anyway, this is the hardest part. I’m feeling deprived and wanting to go back to the old life style. I usually hit this bump and give up. I have to see how it will go this time.

SBD Phase 1 Day 10

All the baking and cleaning flared up my back pain, so I was very unwell. I got up very late, around 10:30. Luckily, my husband got my daughter ready and dropped her off in the nursery, so I could rest. Since I woke up so late and stayed in bed for another couple of hours, my whole day was off.

Aubergine (Eggplant) Soup

This is an Indian Curry that I converted into a soup, that is suitable for South Beach Diet – Phase 1. Unfortunately, I did not take a picture of it.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Large Aubergines
  • 1 Onion
  • 2 Cloves Garlic
  • 2 Tbsp Peanut Butter
  • 2 Tbsp Sesame Seeds (or use Tahini Paste)
  • 1 Tsp Chilli Powder
  • 1 Tsp Garam Masala Powder
  • 2 Tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 Tsp Tamarind Paste (or use lemon juice as substitute)
  • 1 cup vegetable stock
  • Salt to Taste

SBD Phase 1 Day 9

Today is my daughter’s 3rd birthday and I baked a Banana Walnut Cake for her. I know it is banned in phase 1, but I had a small bite when she cut the cake.
